BUYER’S ASSISTANT

Position Description

Do you love fashion and dream of having a lifetime career in the industry? We are seeking a full-time Buyer's Assistant to join our retail team. Above all, the Buyer's Assistant's role is to assist our merchandise manager and department buyers as needed, while offering the excellent customer service that is expected at Barbara/Jean. You'll have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of buying and building the foundation needed to one day have a career as a fashion buyer or manager.

Buyer’s Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Manage, run, and monitor inventory, progress, and order reports using our point-of-sale system.

  • Assist with merchandise swaps, special orders, shipments and approvals, order entry, and other buyer requests as needed.

  • Field all market calls in store and work closely with vendor reps to schedule trunk shows, and book hotel and airfare for reps while in town.

  • Send Trunk Show Agreement to vendors along with hotel confirmation, assist reps during trunk shows by writing up orders, picking up lunch for reps and designers during events.

  • Assist marketing coordinator on events and set up, picking up food/flowers/drinks, ordering rental items, or transporting clothes and supplies or as needed for events.

  • Stay informed on current inventory (availability, color, in stock, prices).

  • Help unpack and repack trunks after trunk shows, assist with cleaning out dressing rooms, and gift wrap when needed.

  • Assist with bi-annual store inventory

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Prior retail or sales experience preferred.

  • Excellent communication, verbal, and written skills  

  • Proven excellent customer service skills

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong leadership qualities, training and team building skills

  • Communicate with customers, standing and maneuvering around sales floor and stockroom, operate register, lift and carry 30 pounds, hang/fold merchandise, reaching, pushing/pulling

  • Regular attendance is essential to this position in order to ensure adequate coverage to meet company objectives

ALTERATIONS ASSOCIATE

Part-time position

Position Description

The Alterations Associate is responsible for producing high quality, altered merchandise within established time frame standards, while providing excellent customer service, establishing and helping to maintain customer relationships, and working effectively with other team members in the store.

Job Requirements:

1. Ability to sew a wide range of garments and fit both male and female clients.
2. Possession of strong technical background in specialty skills, such as leather, knits, double-face, beading, fine tailoring, buttonholes, etc.
3. Pressing and spotting skills.
4. Knowledge of alteration industry including fabrication and styling of luxury merchandise.
5. Maintain production goals as assigned by supervisor, based on salary.
6. Properly fit and mark each garment in dressing room, give estimates of alterations if requested, and fill out alteration ticket after each fitting.
7. Work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and be willing to complete any other job required by manager.

Required experience:

  • Seamstress/tailoring experience in high-end merchandise: 3 years
